Pakistan's No.1 Fintech with more than 3m+ users
NayaPay is an e-wallet for all your everyday payments powered by VISA. I joined the company in early 2022 as the
founding member of the design team. Over the past three years, I’ve been a core part of the team,
currently leading product design from early concepts to developer handoff alongside a peer designer.
Most recently, I led the rebrand of NayaPay’s consumer app, launched this month in July 2025.
This included a complete redesign of more than 25 core features, with a new visual language and an improved user experience.
I also worked on our revamped Send Money and International Remittance flows, launched earlier this year.
I designed and shipped over 35 features during my 4 years at NayaPay. This showcases the newly launched NayaPay rebrand.
NayaPay Design System 2.0
We worked on building NayaPay’s consumer design system entirely in-house. It includes over 1,000 components, 800+ design tokens, and a solid structure of local and global variables. The system was built to scale fast, stay consistent, and make life easier for developers.
Design tokenization was introduced later, helping streamline documentation and improve the handoff between design and development across platforms.

Typography, Color & Spacing tokens
Some key elements of the design system include variables with
different modes, such as Light and Dark, all of which are custom
and interchangeable. Typography and color variables are grouped
into four modes.
800+ raw, primitive, semantic and component tokens with light and dark modes, scalable UI elements and icons all in one system.
What people at NayaPay have to say about me:
Awais is someone whose journey has been inspiring to witness.
He’s constantly pushed boundaries, taken feedback with grace, and grown into a confident, capable designer who truly understands his craft.
Proud of you superstar you’ve come a long way! I’ve seen your growth and it’s nothing short of remarkable.
Raaj Faheem
Role at NayaPay: Chief Product Officer
Over three years at NayaPay, I had the chance to work closely with Awais on designing and shipping the entire iOS app, now used by over 2 million people. We delivered more than 10 major features together, each with its own set of challenges, and he always brought clarity, attention to detail, and a strong sense of ownership to every step.
Our collaboration was built on trust and honest, sometimes tough conversations that always pushed the product forward. Awais brings a thoughtful, user-first mindset to everything he does. He’s not just a great designer, he’s a great teammate, and that made all the difference.

My Design Process: Lean UX Meets Double Diamond
This is how I actually design, not just pretty screens. I mix Lean UX with the Double Diamond model
to bridge what users expect with how the system works.
It’s fast, collaborative, and grounded in real behavior, not guesses. From sketching to shipping, every step is mapped with intent.
No fluff. No buzzwords. Just design that works.

Powering businesses all over the world
More than four million sellers* run on Square, the only platform
of its kind designed for solo entrepreneurs and the largest

Square is the largest business
technology platform serving all kinds of businesses. The Square
operating system allows business owners to sell anywhere, work
more efficiently, manage inventory, communicate with customers,
book appointments, course meals, order online, and so much more.
These tools unlock endless possibilities and countless
opportunities for any operation from global chains to mom-and-pop
shops.

Square Savings
Along with a product manager and two product designers we worked
on the fully optimized experience for Square Savings from ground
up UX to shipping it off within a span of 12 months.
To ship features with a high level of polish, I worked closely
with other disciplines such as research, engineering, and product
management. Besides feature UI work, I led multiple design
explorations. Our team consisted of an EM, four frontend
developers, and me as the team lead and designer. Together, we
planned, prototyped, and implemented the roadmap for Square
Savings. It now has 1B+ holdings with more than 65mil customers.

In total, I spent 1.5 years working at Square. During this time, I
saw the company grow to over a hundred people. I presented my work
at board meetings, design reviews, and in front of our users. I
designed features, helped them evolve over time, and also had to
kill some again. Working at Square made me deeply appreciate how
enjoyable it is to design and build software with others who love
software and value good design.
